Vivian P. Ta-Johnson, PhD
Assistant Professor of Psychology
University of Texas at San Antonio
I am the Principal Investigator of the Language & Social Dynamics Lab (formerly the Technology, Relationships, and Language or TRL Lab) at the University of Texas at San Antonio. We use natural language processing (NLP) to investigate social psychological processes across multiple areas including policing, diplomacy, persuasion, and others.
In my primary research, I use NLP to examine police performance in training programs and body-worn camera videos of police-community encounters to improve law enforcement training, practice, and outcomes.
A common theme throughout my work is promoting NLP methods to study social psychology processes that are challenging to study with traditional research methods.
I also study human-chatbot interactions in a smaller line of research.
